Analyst Gartner has highlighted the top ten technologies and trends that will be strategic for most organizations in 2010, with cloud computing, virtualization, improved data management, and the increased use of e-documents are among the front-runners.
“This list should be used as a starting point and companies should adjust their list based on their industry, unique business needs and technology adoption mode,” said Gartner analyst Carl Claunch.
Gartner's Top 10 strategic technologies for 2010 include:
- Cloud Computing
- Advanced Business Analytics - using applications like CRM and ERP.
- Client Computing - the building of a client computing roadmap to judge which are the best operating systems in view of the rise of virtualization.
- Green IT - including the wider use of teleworking and e-documents, and the adoption of advanced carbon management systems.
- Reshaping the Data Center - to better manage space and reduce running costs through improved power management.
- Social Computing
- Security - with improved activity monitoring.
- Flash Memory - as an alternative to rotating disk storage to increase performance and reduce running costs.
- Virtualization - with improved availability when shifting data from one system to another for back-up and wider access.
- Mobile Applications
